Allegiant to end service to Denver in November, may resume in spring; LVIA may get route to Detroit | Lehigh Valley Regional News

HANOVER TWP., Pennsylvania – Allegiant Air will end service to Denver in November and may resume in the spring.

The flight to Colorado was introduced in June 2023.

Darren Betters, director of business development for the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA), said at an authority committee meeting on Monday that passenger numbers to Denver would decline in late fall 2023 and the flight could potentially become a seasonal route.

Allegiant flies from Lehigh Valley International Airport in Hanover Township to Sunbelt and other locations. Allegiant’s strategy is to offer round-trip flights that can be done in one day.

The route to Denver is longer than Allegiant’s flights to Florida and South Carolina, so a plane that would take a day to fly round-trip to Colorado could instead make two or three round-trip flights south in one day.

On a positive note, Betters said, “We are definitely on the shortlist to resume Detroit service.” However, he did not give a date for the resumption of flights to Michigan’s Motor City.

In the meantime, Allegiant continues to bring passengers to LVIA. Betters said 60% of the traffic is handled by Allegiant and “our growth will continue from there.”

Of the low-cost airlines, Allegiant is “probably the strongest and best positioned,” Betters said.

The LNAA operates the Lehigh Valley International Airport, the Queen City Airport in Allentown and the Braden Airpark in Forks Township.
