Pedestrian hit and killed by train in Red Bluff early Monday | News

RED BLUFF, California – Early Monday morning, a person was hit and killed by a train in Red Bluff.

The collision occurred around 3:40 a.m. near South Main St. and Interstate 5.

A southbound Amtrak train struck a man on the tracks, killing him. Medical examiners are recovering the body. The train stopped for more than an hour and continued on its journey after the scene of the accident was cleared.

This is the fourth time in the last month that a person has been hit by a train in Red Bluff.

In three of those cases, including Monday’s incident, someone was killed.

These collisions all occurred near South Main Street.

The first incident occurred on May 23, when a woman was hit and killed.

The second incident occurred on May 29 behind Raley’s when a woman was hit and killed.

The third incident occurred on June 4 at the library, when a woman was hit by a car and survived.

Action News Now investigated what is causing this problem. High fences are designed to prevent people from getting onto the tracks, but homeless people tell us they have dug a hole in the fence to create a shortcut to get to different parts of the city.

Red Bluff Police conduct educational efforts to make homeless people aware of the dangers of crossing streets outside of railroad crossings.
