Sexual abuse cases: Prajwal Revanna remanded in custody until July 8 | News from Bangalore

A special court in Bengaluru on Monday remanded former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of multiple rapes and sexual abuse, to 14-day judicial custody.

Revanna was produced before the court after expiry of his five-day police custody.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating three cases against Revanna, has so far held him in custody for 22 days.

The SIT has also sought custody of Revanna in a fourth sexual harassment case filed against him. The court will hear arguments on Tuesday regarding the search warrant sought by the SIT.

The SIT officials arrested Revanna shortly after he landed at Bengaluru airport on May 31 from Germany.

Revanna was arrested in a case registered against him in Holenarasipura in Hassan district. He was accused of sexually harassing a 47-year-old former domestic worker and was also charged with three cases of sexual assault.

The sexual abuse cases came to light after USB sticks containing explicit videos allegedly featuring Revanna were reportedly circulating in Hassan, his parliamentary constituency, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections there on April 26.

As a result, the 33-year-old defendant was unable to retain his seat.

JD(S) suspended him from the party after complaints were filed against him.
