Gas prices during the WNY week of June 24

AAA reminds drivers about tire safety and releases gas price report as the week of June 24 approaches.

BUFFALO, NY — The national average for a gallon of gas has remained the same at $3.45 since last Monday, June 17, as we head into a new week beginning Monday, June 24.

A year ago, the price of gasoline was $3.58. The New York State average is $3.58, down two cents from last Monday. A year ago, the average in New York was $3.70. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

  • Batavia – $3.53 (down 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Buffalo – $3.58 (down 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Elmira – $3.38 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Ithaca – $3.64 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Rochester – $3.61 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Rome – $3.59 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Syracuse – $3.55 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Watertown – $3.62 (down 3 cents from last Monday)

According to AAA, “Gasoline prices remained stable nationally while continuing to decline in New York, with the average gallon of regular gasoline down two cents from last week to $3.58.” Oil prices rose slightly this week, trading between lows and lows. The barrel is in the mid 80s this morning. Stable oil prices, tepid demand and increasing supply are the formula for gas prices to continue to fall as summer approaches. Diesel prices are relatively stable. The national average price of diesel is $3.79, up two cents from last year. As of Monday, the average in New York is $4.25, down one cent from last Monday.

They also mention that “to save fuel, motorists should map out their routes, avoid busy times like rush hours, and combine their errands into a single trip while using cruise control when possible.” Drivers should also ensure that tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the journey. better gas mileage while removing all unnecessary and bulky items from the car, as it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.

This week (June 24 – July 3) is also “Tire Safety Week” and AAA is sharing information from the American Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) in an effort to raise awareness about safety, maintenance, summer travel and much more.

AAA reports that “To help motorists remember these important tire maintenance actions, USTMA encourages drivers to remember the acronym “PART” – Pressure, Alignment, Rotation and Tread. Tire safety essentials are especially important this year as summer road trips are expected to be very popular and vehicle use is increasing. Americans traveled more than 3.263 trillion miles in 2023, an increase of more than 67.5 billion miles from 2022, according to the Federal Highway Administration.
