OSWEGO – On June 23, 2024, at approximately 2:06 am, the Oswego Police Department (OPD) was dispatched to 49 W Bridge St, The Sting, for a report of a fight in progress where gunshots were heard. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a verbal and physical argument had occurred outside of the bar between a man and a woman. Witnesses in the area reported that as the altercation escalated, a woman fired several shots from a handgun, at least one of which struck a man. Officers located a man suffering from an injury consistent with a gunshot wound to a lower extremity. The man was transported to Oswego Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspected shooter was not on scene.

OPD Criminal Investigation Division investigators concluded that the suspected shooter was in an apartment in the Sylvan Glen apartment complex at 22 W 8.th St. The OPD Special Response Team (SRT) arrived at an apartment building in the complex at approximately 7:02 p.m. After a standoff lasting approximately one and a half hours, the SRT made contact with the female suspect in an apartment, where she was taken into custody without incident.

The woman, identified as Brianna A. Sneed, 24 years old, of Rochester, NY, was transported to the Oswego Police Department where she was charged with the following offenses:

Attempted murder in the 2ndand Grade a Class B felony

Attack in the 1stst Grade a Class B felony

Criminal use of a firearm, a class B felony

Criminal possession of weapons in the 2ndand Grade a Class C felony

Reckless endangerment in the 1stst Grade a Class D felony

Ms. Sneed will be detained pending arraignment.

The victim was treated and released from Oswego Hospital. This is being investigated as an isolated incident that poses no threat to the public as the victim and suspect know each other.

The OPD was assisted by the New York State Police, Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Oswego State University Police, Oswego Fire Department and Menter’s Ambulance.
