A married father from Arizona was killed when he became trapped under his car while doing repairs, but passersby who witnessed the bizarre accident robbed him instead of saving him, his heartbroken family claim.

Jeronimo Garcia Guerra, 69, may have been trapped under his vehicle in a Phoenix parking lot near 23rd Avenue and Thomas Road for hours before someone called emergency services, according to police.

The father of two was on his way to work with his wife Margarita on the morning of June 17 when their car broke down.

Police believe that the jack he was using to support the vehicle while working on it collapsed, causing the car to fall on him and ultimately killing him.

But Guerra’s devastated family revealed that by the time police arrived at the scene, heartless thieves had already stolen everything from the victim’s pockets, looted the car he had tried to repair, and stolen the vehicle he had arrived in.

Jeronimo Garcia Guerra, 69, was robbed while trapped under his broken-down car, which he was trying to repair in a parking lot in Phoenix, Arizona.
The tragic incident occurred on June 17 at around 9:45 a.m., but police were not called to the scene until around noon.
Guerra’s devastated daughter Monica Garcia announced that her car had also been stolen
Guerra’s son Jerry Garcia Jr. told AZFamily that his father believed, “Nobody out there is going to help you.”

After Margarita’s car broke down, Guerra drove his daughter Monica’s car back to the parking lot before starting work on his wife’s broken-down vehicle.

He arrived at the parking lot around 9:45 a.m. and the police were not called until around noon, the inconsolable Monica told AZFamily.

“Who knows when the car actually fell on him,” Monica said.

“Who knows how long he was down there.”

The daughter recalled the tragedy, adding: “After everything, they searched my father’s bags and my mother’s car and saw them drive away with my car.”

Monica attacked the witnesses who had seen the car fall on her father and those who had taken advantage of his trapped, helpless situation and decided to rob him.

“It’s hard because I would never do that to anyone. I don’t care about my car, but they could have at least stayed with him until help arrived,” she said.

“At least I would have known he wasn’t alone all day until someone came up with the idea of saying, ‘Oh my God, he’s not moving.'”

Monica’s car was later discovered abandoned near the crime scene, but she said the robbery was the least of her worries.

“This is someone’s father, someone’s husband, a grandparent, someone’s best friend. He’s my person. And I don’t have that anymore because nobody could stop and check,” she said.

A GoFundMe page set up by Guerra’s daughter-in-law states that he is also a grandfather to “little Margarita and Michael (Mijo).”

Guerra’s son Jerry Garcia Jr. also told the television station: “He always believed that no one out there would help him. In this situation, he was right.”

Following the devastating incident, Guerra’s daughter-in-law, April Adams, set up a GoFundMe campaign as the family prepared for his funeral.

In a heartbreaking message, April wrote: “On June 17, 2024, Jeronimo Garcia Guerra (beloved husband, father, father-in-law, and friend) lost his life in an accident while repairing a vehicle (under extenuating circumstances).”

“We are asking for help as we prepare to lay him to rest. He leaves behind his wife Margarita, two children, Monica (Ramiro) and little Margarita and Michael (Mijo) and Jerry (April). Any help would be appreciated at this time.”

In an update posted yesterday, April announced that the memorial service will take place later this week as the $4,000 fundraising goal has been reached.

The police have not yet made any arrests and their investigations are ongoing.
