IHC suspends the amended judgment of the ECP Tribunal

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday set aside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decision to change the election tribunal, ARY News reported.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the case and issued a contempt of court notice to PML-N Member National Assembly (MNA) Anjum Aqeel Khan.

During the hearing, the court asked the Assistant Attorney General (AAG) how he would defend this regulation.

“Abolish Parliament and run the government by regulations. You have set up a regulation factory,” Judge Aamer observed.

The court also asked whether Anjum Aqeel had asked the ECP for a change of tribunal.

“Please explain what the word prejudice means?” said the presiding judge.

Anjum apologized to the judge, saying: “I admit that my English is weak, this is a legal language.

Following these observations, the IHC stayed the ECP’s order amending the Islamabad Election Tribunal and reinstated the tribunal comprising Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri.

The court issued a contempt notice to Anjum Aqeel and adjourned the hearing to July 9.
