Vacant two-storey building destroyed by fire overnight; investigations ongoing

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – The cause of a large fire that destroyed a two-story vacant building is under investigation.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 in the 3300 block of North Street near the North Acadian Thruway.

According to the fire department, they arrived on site and found the top floor of the two-story commercial building already in flames.

Officials added that winds pushed the fire into the nearby house. Emergency crews began protecting the house while others began extinguishing the fire.

The emergency services managed to keep the flames away from the house, but the empty building is considered a total loss. The fire was out of control after about 30 minutes.

Investigators are on site and are working to determine the cause.
