Houston murder suspect in custody after standoff

A man accused of killing a woman at a gas station near the Museum District Tuesday was arrested after a standoff Wednesday evening in western Harris County.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — The man accused of shooting and killing a woman and also shooting a deputy near the Museum District Tuesday was taken into custody Wednesday evening in the Katy area.

Tilford Anthony Joseph, 46, was arrested after a standoff at a west Harris County apartment complex, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

According to Gonzalez, deputies were called to the complex on Westborough Drive, just north of Katy Highway between North Fry Road and North Westgreen Boulevard, regarding a weapons-related disturbance. He said when officers arrived on scene, the suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment.

That’s when, Gonzalez said, they realized Joseph was possibly wanted for murder and aggravated assault of a peace officer following the shooting that occurred shortly after midnight Tuesday.
