Shots fired near Clemson trigger campus alarm, no injuries reported

An argument at Dawson Park near Clemson resulted in gunfire and triggered a campus alarm. No injuries were reported.

CLEMSON, SC – Police have provided more information on the shooting near Clemson University Sunday afternoon that prompted a campus alert urging students, faculty and staff to “position themselves to safety.”

Clemson City Police issued a statement Sunday evening saying that an argument between several people in Dawson Park on Old Stone Church Road resulted in one person firing several shots in the direction of other people. The shots caused several people in the park to flee. Police said no one was injured in the incident.

The department said Clemson University public safety officials issued a “critical alert” in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Act due to a potential threat to the campus community. The department issued the alert at approximately 7:10 p.m. and lifted it at approximately 8 p.m., at which point normal operations at the university resumed.

City police are still investigating the incident and have collected evidence at the scene. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective John Brown at 864-624-2008.
