FHP: Victim hit and killed on SW Miami-Dade Turnpike survived first crash – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A person who survived a crash on the Florida Turnpike in southwest Miami-Dade was killed in a second collision, authorities said.

Florida Highway Patrol officers arrived at the scene of the fatal crash along the southbound lanes in the Bird Road area Saturday evening.

According to investigators, an accident occurred between a white SUV and a gray sedan.

The collision left both vehicles unusable and the left lane partially blocked, police said.

At around 9:15 p.m., two people were standing next to their crashed cars when they and the sedan were hit by a pickup truck, authorities said.

One of the victims died on impact; his death was pronounced at the scene of the accident.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics transported the second victim to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition.

Two other people were hospitalized, but their condition was unknown as of Sunday evening.
