James Maguire of the Irish Taxi Drivers Association is calling for video surveillance in taxis after two young women were raped by taxi driver Raymond Shorten.

James Maguire, vice-president of the Irish Taxi Drivers Association, advised his passengers to use taxi apps for safety reasons and called for subsidised video surveillance in all taxis after there were 69 allegations of rape or sexual assault in taxis between 2017 and 2023, according to official figures from six Sexual Assault Treatment Units (SATUS) across Ireland.
