Man has to go to court for alleged disturbance in park

A man in his late teens is due to appear in court this morning facing charges in connection with an incident of violent disorder that is believed to have occurred in Phoenix Park last Monday.

Earlier this week, the Seanad heard that three gay men were “chased” in the park by a group of men with knives. Fine Gael Senator Barry Ward said one of the victims had contacted him about the alleged incident.

At around 11.30pm that evening, Gardaí said they had received an anonymous call about an incident in the park and had gone to the scene.

Gardaí said the area was searched but no one came forward.

After further investigations, a suspect was identified.

The man was arrested on Saturday and held at a police station in north Dublin.

Charges have now been filed against him and he will appear in court this morning.
