Man arrested after double shooting outside Seattle home

LOS ANGELES — Two Seattle men are recovering after being shot through an apartment window early Sunday morning.

A Seattle police officer found two men, ages 37 and 28, shot to death near 8th Avenue South and South King Street at 12:29 a.m. The two victims were taken to a safer location while officers called for additional personnel. Seattle police said the two were treated by the Seattle Fire Department and taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.

After initial investigations, officers concluded that the shots came from a window of a nearby second-floor apartment.

“I really don’t want something like this to happen. It made me sad when I heard about it,” said Herbert Lui, the manager of the property where the shooting took place. “When people open fire and shoot a lot of people, it doesn’t feel good at all and that’s really bad for the community,” he added.

Lui said such violence had never occurred in the apartment building and he had never had any problems with the residents living there.

Police said they found the suspect in a residence and arrested him. The 24-year-old suspect is being booked into the King County Jail on two counts of first-degree assault.

One restaurant owner said he was worried about how much this shooting would hurt his business.

“When people hear about this, they’re not going to want to come to Chinatown anymore because of the shootings. You can already see that there aren’t as many people there as there used to be,” Paul said.

Police also found a firearm next to the window overlooking a parking lot where the victims were believed to have been shot. Police obtained a search warrant and seized the weapon believed to have been used. Additional weapons were also seized as evidence.

Local residents said they were not surprised by the shooting, adding they were concerned for their safety.

“I think it’s OK during the day because there are a lot of police patrolling and a lot of people out and about. That’s why it’s safer during the day. But at night I wouldn’t dare go outside when the sun goes down,” says Patrick Kong, who lives nearby.

Seattle police said additional charges could be filed once the assigned detective completes his investigation.
