1 dead, 2 hospitalized after water rescue operation in Skaggs Bridge Park in Fresno County

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) – EDITOR’S NOTE: The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office initially reported that two people died after ending up in the water at Skaggs Bridge Park. It later clarified that one person had died and two people had been hospitalized. The following story has been edited to reflect the Sheriff’s Office’s correction.

One person died and two were hospitalized after they all landed in the San Joaquin River.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office was called to Skaggs Bridge Park north of Kerman around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to authorities, two people were struggling in the water when passersby came to their aid.

One of the first people in the water and a passerby were taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

The condition of the person pulled from the water is critical, and the passerby who rushed to help is expected to survive.

The second person, who was initially struggling in the water, was considered missing when officers arrived, but has since been recovered from the water.
