The Grapevine: Buffalo’s summer art scene heats up in June

The semester is finally coming to an end and the weather is finally warming up.

To celebrate a great day and a freer schedule, check out what Buffalo’s art scene has to offer.

June 1 and 2 — Intersect: a queer arts festival

The festival highlights queer art in all its forms. There will be a large vendor section, installations and live art creations. The center stage will feature queer poets, drag performers and a talent show.

June 7 — “Quiet elegance: a remarkable legacy” opens at Buffalo AKG

The anonymous donation contains many mid-20th century pieces from notable artists of the era, including Pablo Picasso, Ellsworth Kelly and Alexander Calder. The AKG also hosts several art events each month, including tours, performances, art classes and more. The cost of admission for college students is $16.

June 8 and 9 — Allentown Arts Festival

The 67th Allentown Arts Festival is a vibrant, multi-block celebration of Buffalo’s creatives. There are stalls of all kinds of homemade crafts and food. Buskers of all kinds line the street, giving the festival a burst of live music. It’s a great way to get acquainted with local Buffalo artists and musicians.
