Math teacher fired after getting student drunk and sexually harassing her

A teachers’ wage council fired a mathematics teacher who had sex with a student after plying her with alcohol and getting her drunk in his room.

The student, who was 18 at the time of the incident in March 2021, became pregnant and subsequently gave birth to her child.

On 13 June, the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) found Sabelo Dladla, a teacher at Mxhume Secondary School in Ntabankulu, Eastern Cape, guilty of sexual assault.
