Man killed and woman seriously injured in triple stabbing attack in New York City

New York: Three people were stabbed, one fatally, in Manhattan’s East Village on Sunday evening and one man is in police custody, police officials said.

One of the victims, a 38-year-old man, died after being stabbed in the neck near East 14th Street near Avenue A, police said. The other two victims were a 51-year-old woman who was stabbed in the leg and a 32-year-old man who was stabbed in the back. The woman was in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital, and the man was in stable condition.

A 30-year-old man is in police custody and a “cutting tool” was found at the scene, officials said. It was unclear on Sunday whether he will be charged with the stabbings or whether he knew the victims.

Around 5:45 p.m., police received several 911 calls about the stabbing. Fozlul Karim, 22, of the Bronx, who runs a Domino’s Pizza on the block, said he was inside cooking when a customer ran into the store. The customer told him that several people had been stabbed, so he ran outside.

He and dozens of others watched as police and paramedics placed the woman on a stretcher on 14th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A and rolled her to an ambulance, according to cellphone video Karim took of the scene. One officer yelled, “Move, move, move!” for people to get out of the way.

Karim said the incident had shocked him. “We are scared,” he said.

Hours after the attack, 24-year-old Olivia McLeod, who lives across the street, stood near the crime scene. Several blood-splattered items of clothing lay scattered on the sidewalk.

The stabbings, McLeod said, had shocked her.

“From now on, I will always keep an eye on my head,” she said.
