Karnataka: Secretary of BJP’s youth party Morcha arrested for sexually assaulting a woman

Suraj Revanna, MP of the Janata Dal (Secular) and brother of former Prajwal Revannawas arrested by the Karnataka police on Sunday for allegedly sexually harassing a male JD(S) worker. The complainant alleged that he visited Suraj at a farm in Hassan district on June 16, where Suraj allegedly stripped him and assaulted him and threatened his family with violence. The victim also accused Suraj of promising him job offers and political advancement opportunities.

Following the complaint, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara handed over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Suraj was taken into custody and subsequently remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by a magistrate, according to a TIE report. Suraj’s father, JD(S) MP HD Revanna, termed the incident a political conspiracy, while Parameshwara refuted the conspiracy charges, saying there was evidence to prompt the arrest.

Earlier, Suraj had alleged that the case was an attempt to extort money from him, while his assistant had filed an extortion case against the complainant, claiming Rs 5 crore. The complainant countered, claiming that he was offered Rs 2 crore to keep quiet about the incident. The case involves prominent political figures, including her grandfather, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, and her uncle, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
