2 dogs killed in house fire in rural Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kansas (KWCH) – Two dogs died and another was rescued in a house fire near Hutchinson Sunday afternoon.

The Hutchinson Fire Department said its crews were called to a structure fire at 6820 N Tobacco Road just before 1 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a one-story home with heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof.

“Firefighters aggressively moved into the interior of the fire and began searching an addition in the attic above, as well as looking for possible victims,” ​​said Division Chief Jesse Martin.

According to HFD, the residents were not home during the fire, but their three dogs were inside the home. Firefighters rescued one dog from the fire, but the other two died at the scene.

The fire remains under investigation by the Hutchinson Fire Department Fire Chief.
