Man arrested in Lehi for alleged attempted kidnapping identified, details released

LEHI, Utah (KUTV) — The suspect arrested on Saturday in an alleged kidnapping attempt has been identified.

Lt. Steve Burke of the West Valley Police Department said Jhony Sanchez-Macha, a California resident, went to his girlfriend’s house on Saturday and told her they were going shopping.

After the victim got into the car, Sanchez-Macha immediately got on the highway and headed toward California, Burke said.

Burke said the victim called her family and told them she was being held against her will and would not be let out.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was able to stop Sanchez-Macha during a high-risk stop on I-15 in Lehi, which led to the closure of some lanes Saturday evening, Burke said.

Burke added that the suspect’s arrest took place without incident.

No updates were provided regarding the victim.
