Relatives of an accident victim set truck on fire

Pune: Angry relatives of a 22-year-old motorcyclist, who was allegedly run over by a truck in Bhugaon around 11.15 pm on Friday, set the vehicle ablaze in a fit of rage. Hinjewadi police identified the deceased as Ganesh Shedge, who was returning home from work at the time of the incident. The truck driver was later arrested and charged under sections 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (reckless driving) of the IPC and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. Assistant Inspector Somnath Panchal said a preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred when the truck tried to overtake the motorcycle. “After the collision, the victim fell off the motorcycle and came under the wheels of the truck,” he said. The officer said a separate case has been registered for overtaking the vehicle under relevant sections of the IPC. “We have established the identities of the seven people from Bhugaon and the investigation is on,” he said.
