Six people arrested after spraying the green at a golf tournament

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — Six people emerged from the crowd and stormed the 18th green as the leaders lined up their putts on the final hole of regulation at the Travelers Championship on Sunday, delaying the finish by about five minutes.

People sprayed white and red powder, leaving stains on the grass before Scottie Scheffler, Tom Kim and Akshay Bhatia finished their laps.

After the intruders were tackled to the ground and taken away by police, Scheffler placed a potential 26-foot kick from the edge of the right hole and then tapped in for par.

Kim, who was one stroke behind going into the final hole, sank a 10-foot birdie putt to tie Scheffler and send the tournament into a sudden-death playoff.

Workers with leaf blowers arrived to remove the remaining paint. The hole’s location was changed before the playoff, and Scheffler and Kim were scheduled to play the 18th hole again.
