Suspect arrested and identified after fatal shooting near San Francisco Civic Center

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stalking and shooting a victim in the South of Market neighborhood on Friday night, police said.

The victim was shot around 7:15 p.m. on Mission Street near Eighth Street. Police believe the shooter chased the victim and fired several shots at him.

Officers began CPR before paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he died, police said. His age and name were not released.

Officers arrested the suspect, who matched the description of the shooter, at the Civic Center BART station, police said. The suspect, Adam Masaed, had a gun on him, police said.

Officers later arrested Masaed and booked him into jail on suspicion of killing the victim and intentionally and negligently discharging a weapon. The 35-year-old was held without bail, according to jail records.
