Housing in Buffalo May Be More Affordable Than You Think, Study Says

The 2024 edition of the Demographia International Housing Affordability Study covered 94 cities in eight counties.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Housing in the city of Buffalo might be more affordable than you think, according to a recent study.

Buffalo ranked sixth in a global study of the most affordable housing markets, according to researchers at Chapman University and the Frontier Center for Public Policy in Canada.

The City of Good Neighbors was behind Pittsburgh, Rochester, St. Louis, Cleveland and Edmonton, Alberta. The top 10 was rounded out by Detroit, Oklahoma City, Cincinnati and Louisville.

If you’re wondering which cities rank lowest for affordable housing, it’s Hong Kong; three Australian cities, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide; two Canadian cities, Vancouver and Toronto; as well as San Jose, Los Angeles, Honolulu, San Francisco and San Diego in the United States.

The 2024 edition of the Demographia International Housing Affordability Study covered 94 cities in eight counties. The figures used are from the third quarter of 2023.
