Sub-inspector arrested for raping policewoman | Mumbai News

A 32-year-old sub-inspector of the Mumbai police was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a 25-year-old policewoman, who was also a member of the Mumbai police, under false pretenses.

In 2020, the defendant met the plaintiff for the first time and became friends with her.

According to police sources, the two became close and the sub-inspector took her to a flat in Sanpada and allegedly raped her on the pretext of marriage. Later, he repeated the act several times on different occasions.

The accused police officer is also said to have borrowed Rs 1.9 million from the complaining police officer on several occasions but failed to return it on the promised time.

When the plaintiff persisted, he paid her back 146,000 rupees, the police source said.

Festive offer

“The accused started forcing the policewoman to divorce her husband and when she refused, he threatened to kill her. The accused policeman also chased the woman on the street,” another source said.

Since there was no improvement in the defendant’s behavior, the police officer finally filed a complaint.

Based on her complaint, the police officer was charged with rape, repeated rape, sexual harassment, intimidation, cheating and stalking under the Indian Penal Code.

An internal departmental investigation has also been launched against the accused police officer, the second source said.
