Woman allegedly attacks 10-year-old and bites police officer at New Jersey motel pool

A day at the pool took a dark turn after a drunken woman allegedly attacked a 10-year-old boy and bit a police officer who was arresting her, authorities said.

The woman, identified as Philadelphia resident Fallan Turner, attacked the child on the afternoon of June 17 at a motel in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, according to a Wildwood Crest police news release.

Officers responded to the motel, identified by Philadelphia station 6 ABC as the Waikiki Oceanfront Inn, after witnesses reported that Turner, 43, was involved in an altercation with a child at the pool.

Witnesses at the scene described her as “very drunk” and “out of control,” authorities said. Another witness reportedly told police that Turner had been drinking tequila all day, 6 ABC reported.

In her drunken state, Turner allegedly “grabbed an unrelated 10-year-old boy and spun him around in the pool and submerged him under water,” police said. And when the 10-year-old’s father tried to intervene, Turner allegedly “jumped on his back and grabbed him inappropriately.”

When officers attempted to speak to Turner, police said she became “belligerent” and was arrested, but resisted arrest.

According to police, she “punched the arresting officer in the face while resisting his control” and continued to be “extremely uncooperative and belligerent” during the procession, even biting a police officer on the hand.

However, none of the officers were injured in the altercation, police said.

“When she was told that people didn’t want to involve her, she became angry,” Wildwood Crest Police Chief Robert Lloyd told 6 ABC, adding, “She became extremely unruly and did some very inappropriate things.”

Lloyd also told the outlet that Wildwood Crest is normally a family-friendly place, but the department has seen more cases like Turner’s since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s unfortunate,” he said. “When you get into trouble with the police, you not only ruin your own vacation, but also the vacation of others who just want to have fun.”

The Waikiki Oceanfront Inn did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

According to police, Turner was charged with third-degree child endangerment, two counts of third-degree aggravated assault on a police officer, third-degree resisting arrest, fourth-degree sexual abuse, two counts of harassment, disorderly conduct and failure to provide fingerprinting.

Prison records seen by PEOPLE show that she also refused to give a blood sample for the police DNA database.

Turner is currently being held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility. It is unclear if she has legal representation who could comment on her behalf.
