One dead and three injured in shooting

One person was killed and three others injured in a shooting in Tampa on Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to the Tampa Police Department (TPD), officers received a 911 call about a shooting at 11606 McKinley Drive around 4:40 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found two vehicles in the parking lot that had been shot at.

A total of four people were injured in the shooting. One person was pronounced dead, and three other victims are being treated in hospital. Their condition was reported to be stable.

Police officials said the victim is believed to be 26-year-old Charles Jones. A clear identification is still pending until the coroner has confirmed this.

According to his attorney Lewis Fusco of the Fusco Law Group in Jacksonville, Jones was also known as the rapper Foolio.

According to a press release from Fusco Law Group, Jones was in Tampa over the weekend to celebrate his birthday. “According to law enforcement reports, he was initially staying at an Airbnb but was asked to leave due to occupancy limits being exceeded. He then moved to the Holiday Inn where he was involved in an incident in the hotel parking lot and was reportedly assaulted,” the press release states. “Fusco Law Group had the honor of representing Charles Jones, known professionally as Foolio, for several years. It is with deep sadness that we confirm that Mr. Jones passed away early today. Although these events surrounding our client, Mr. Charles Jones, have been disclosed by law enforcement, we are unable to comment further at this time until more details become public. We politely ask that you respect the privacy of Mr. Jones and his family during this difficult time.”

Police are investigating what led to the shooting and trying to identify the suspects involved. The TPD would not confirm Jones’ rap identity.

The investigation is currently ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available, police officials said.
