New York father arrested on Connecticut beach for allegedly trying to drown his own children – New Bedford Guide

“Yesterday morning, at approximately 2:31 a.m., an officer patrolling the area of Ocean Avenue and Dawson Avenue observed a Nissan SUV parked on the beach.

As the officer approached, he heard loud screaming coming from the water. As he continued toward the commotion, it was apparent that an adult man and two small children were in the water. As the officer entered the water, the adult man and the children continued to drift away, yelling at the officers to “stay back.”

At this point, it was obvious that the man, later identified as Romney Desronvil (7/31/82), was intentionally drowning his children. Officers immediately entered the water and were nearly 100 yards from shore at this point. Other officers on scene joined members of the West Shore Fire Department and entered the water in the West Shore Fire boat.

The first officer to arrive was able to take both children into his care and other officers assisted him in bringing the children to shore. Life-saving measures were administered to both children and they were immediately transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Members of the New Haven Police Department met the ambulance and WHPD at the city limits to assist in escorting the child to the hospital for immediate transport for further medical care. Both children remain in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Currently, Romney Desronvil of Queens, New York, is in West Haven police custody pending charges for this heinous act.

It is without a doubt the quick response of our patrol officers that saved these children’s lives. The communication and cooperation of the West Shore Fire Department and ultimately the New Haven Police Department enabled immediate medical attention and also the arrest of Desronvil.

“Our Criminal Investigation Division has now taken over the investigation and will provide additional information as the investigation progresses.” – West Haven Police Department.
