Albuquerque Police Department officer has been placed on administrative leave as part of the DWI unit’s investigation

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police say another officer has been placed on leave in connection with an investigation into the department’s DWI Unit. APD spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said Officer Matthew Trahan was informed he was part of an investigation and was placed on leave. Trahan has been with APD since 2006 and was part of the DWI unit from 2014 to 2016.

The department’s DWI unit has been under investigation in connection with allegations that officers accepted money to get drunk driving charges dropped. Since the investigation became known in early January, six officers have resigned or retired. The officials who resigned are Honorio Alba, Harvey Johnson, Nelson Ortiz, Justin Hunt, Joshua Montaño and Daren DeAguero.


Another official, Commander Mark Landavazo of the Internal Affairs Division, was placed on leave. An unnamed lieutenant was also temporarily transferred to the internal affairs department.

No officers have been charged in connection with the investigation.
