Urgent appeal to all dog owners around Buffalo, New York

The heat and humidity are going to be excessive here in Western New York this week. Alerts and warnings have been issued as schools across New York State consider sending children home early this week.

Even though the heat will be intense this week, summer won’t officially arrive until Thursday, the date of the summer solstice.

But there is one thing that happens in parks and along public sidewalks in and around Buffalo, it’s very disgusting and when it’s hot it’s even worse!

Temperatures this week are on track to hit records and in some places astonishing highs have already been recorded.

As the heat index rises above 100 degrees, some call for you to put your dog’s feces in a less offensive place.

As we walked through this park in Hamburg this week, the stench from the dog poop bags hanging in front of the trash cans was overwhelming. It was like walking past a dog sewer!

There are several things people can do when it’s this hot to help their neighbors who are also enjoying the parks and sidewalks. First, place the bags completely INSIDE the bins. And second, remember to put your dog’s poop in your own trash can.

Ironically, and if you look closely you can see, there is a “no dogs” policy at this park.
