Driver killed in wrong-way accident

A female driver was killed when the car she was driving crossed the center lane on Interstate 135 and collided with an oncoming semi-trailer truck.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 29-year-old Konner Hayes of Newton was driving a Hyundai Accent passenger vehicle northbound on I 135. For an unknown reason, she crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming Freightliner semi-trailer truck.

The car came to a stop in the left lane, facing southwest. The semi-truck came to a stop across both northbound lanes of I-135.

Hayes was killed in the accident. The truck driver had no visible injuries.

:The accident occurred Saturday afternoon around 1:45 p.m. on I 135 in Harvey County, about two miles south of Newton.
