Young motorcyclist killed in Pune accident; mob sets truck on fire | Pune News

Police have identified the deceased as Ganesh Shankar Shedge, a resident of Bhugaon in Pune.

A 22-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a truck on Bhugaon Road in Pune. An angry group of the victim’s relatives and locals set fire to the truck, which was loaded with goods, after the driver fled the scene.

Police identified the deceased as Ganesh Shankar Shedge, a resident of Bhugaon, and the driver of the truck as Vishal Chhagan Pawale, 32, a native of Pirangut. The incident occurred on the Chandani Chowk-Bhugaon road at around 11.15 pm on Friday.

“Investigation suggests that the driver of the truck tried to overtake the motorcycle at high speed and collided with the motorcycle. Shedge was knocked down and suffered fatal head injuries when he hit the ground. The driver fled the scene, abandoning the truck,” said an official from Hinjewadi police station.

An FIR was filed on Saturday and the truck driver was subsequently arrested for reckless driving and negligent homicide.

A mob of at least 20 people, including family members of the victim, relatives and residents of Bhugaon, set the truck on fire over an hour after the incident. The truck’s cabin was destroyed in the fire. Police later arrested 20 people on charges of arson and rioting.
