In Suraj Revanna sexual assault case, FIR says he told victim, ‘Next time will be better’

A 27-year-old JD(S) worker told police that Karnataka MP and politician Suraj Revanna forced him to have sexual intercourse and said that “it will be better next time” after repeatedly assaulting him at a farm in Gannikada in Hassan district on June 16.

Suraj, the brother of rape-accused former MP Prajwal Revanna, was arrested on Sunday for “unnatural offences” and the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department. According to a report by India todayThe FIR in this case is a graphic description of the horror experienced by the JD(S) employee during the alleged sexual assault in which he was forced to perform anal and oral sex.

The FIR stated that Suraj promised the JD(S) worker a job if he agreed to work with him, saying that since it was their first time, things would go better next time.

What happened on the farm?

Suraj invited the JD(S) worker to the farmhouse and asked him to arrive around 6 pm. When the victim entered the room, Suraj asked him to close the door and approached him without warning, the FIR said. He placed his hands on the victim’s shoulders, caressed his ears and kissed him, the FIR further said.

In the FIR, the victim said the situation escalated quickly and he was unable to respond appropriately as he was overcome with fear. He said he protested against the MLC’s actions and asked him to stop, but he threatened to kill him, saying he came from a politically influential family.

The victim told police that he was promised a flourishing career if he agreed to be with him. Soon after, according to the FIR, the victim was dragged into the bedroom where Suraj hugged him tightly, bit his cheeks and started touching his private parts.

Despite his pleas to stop, the victim was forced to perform anal and oral sex, after which she finally begged Suraj to stop. But the JD(S) leader continued the assault and told him that it would get easier with time, the FIR said.

Suraj also told him that he will have a promising political career and will also get a job if he obeys him and continues to meet him whenever asked. The MLC also asked the victim to apologize for his bad reaction and to send him a message once he returns home.

According to the FIR, the party worker fell into depression after the incident and narrated his ordeal to Shivakumar, a close confidant of Suraj. The victim had met Suraj when he came to Kollangi village in Hassan district during the Lok Sabha elections. They both exchanged numbers and Suraj told him that they could meet later, the FIR said.

What does Suraj Revanna say?

Suraj, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, has categorically denied the allegations, claiming that the man had filed a false complaint against him to extort Rs 50 crore from him.

On June 21, the police registered an extortion case against the JD(S) worker after Shivakumar filed a complaint to whom he had narrated the sexual assault incident. The worker alleged that the party worker had tried to extort money from Suraj by threatening to file a false sexual assault case against him.

It is alleged that Suraj’s husband initially demanded Rs 5 crore, but the amount was later reduced to Rs 2 crore.

What happens next?

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said the case would be handed over to the CID, adding, “A number of similar cases have been handed over to the CID, this one will also be handed over to the CID.” Referring to a complaint filed by Suraj Revanna, he said, “All necessary action will be taken.”

On Suraj’s allegation of a conspiracy against his family, Parameshwara said, “There is a complaint and on that basis all necessary action will be taken as per law. Apart from that, I am not aware of any political conspiracy that he has alleged.”

According to police sources, the JD(S) leader was questioned overnight at the Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) police station in Hassan before being arrested this morning. He was later taken to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) for medical examination, they said.
