Shooting in Newport News ends with one dead; no arrests announced

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia – According to the Newport News Police Department (NNPD), a man was hospitalized after an overnight shooting, where he died on Sunday.

Police responded to the corner of 36th Street and Madison Avenue, where Shotspotter recorded gunshots at around 2:13 a.m. Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, whose identity was not publicly disclosed, was taken to a hospital where he eventually died.

The NNPD said no further details would be released and that an investigation was ongoing.
