Jet ski driver dies, second jet ski driver injured after incident on Lake Ontario

Monroe County officials said one person was killed and another injured in a jet ski incident on Lake Ontario Saturday night.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, its sheriff’s deputies and marine unit, local fire departments, including the Rochester Fire Department’s marine unit, and the State Police aviation unit, responded to a 911 call regarding a capsized boat three-quarters of a mile west of Irondequoit Bay.

Rescue crews found a capsized jet ski with a male jet skier on board. He was taken to Strong Hospital for treatment of what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Police were informed that there were two people on the jet ski and continued searching. Shortly after 8 p.m., they found the missing jet skier in Lake Ontario. She was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.

The names of those involved in the incident have not yet been released. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 911.
