3 Second Basemen the Atlanta Braves Should Target in the 2024 MLB Draft

As the 2024 MLB Draft approaches, there is likely one name in particular cemented atop the list of second basemen, Oregon State’s Travis Bazzana, and who could very easily be selected with the No. 1 overall pick.

Although they are not in play for the Atlanta Braves, there are a few other players at the position who could be intriguing potential selections in the upper rounds in July, however, even in the first round.

Here are three of those names, each of which would be intriguing names the Braves could target in the upper rounds of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Christian Moore, Tennessee

A player who likely continues to move up the draft ladder, if Moore were available to the Braves at pick No. 24, then it would certainly be difficult to pass up on the Tennessee star’s potential. One of the most accomplished hitters in Tennessee history, Moore hit for a combined .340/.449/.702 with 60 HR, 158 RBI and 21 SB over the last three seasons, and is currently in the midst of a breakout year with the Volunteers in which he has cut down .384/.457/.814 with 33 HR, 72 RBI and four SB.

Jay Abernathy, North Cobb (GA)

One of the prep prospects to watch at the position is Abernathy, who is a versatile infielder out of North Cobb High School in Georgia. The Tennessee commit has some standout tools, such as his speed and ability to hit for contact, and it’s likely he’ll hear his name called at some point during the first two rounds.

Emilien Pitre, Kentucky

The final name on this list comes from the college ranks of Pitre, who is coming off a breakout season at Kentucky in which he cut back .299/.422/.511 with a career high nine HR, 56 RBI and 26 SB. One of the best college players at this position in this draft, Pitre also slashed.306/.430/.459 overall for his career at Kentucky with 10 HR, 107 RBI and 46 SB.

If the Atlanta Braves select a second baseman in the upper rounds in July outside of those three, here are a few others they could target: Peyton Stovall (Arkansas), Duce Gourson (UCLA)

Yes, Atlanta’s need at second base isn’t necessarily the greatest due to the presence of Ozzie Albies. However, could any of those names mentioned above still make their way to Atlanta in the 2024 MLB Draft?
