Police arrest JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna for ‘sexual assault’ on man; case transferred to CID

Suraj Revanna, MLC of Janata Dal (Secular) and son of former Karnataka minister HD Revanna, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting a male party worker, police said.
Early on Saturday evening, a case was registered against Suraj Revanna under sections 377 (unnatural sexual intercourse), 342 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Holenarasipura police station in Hassan district. The party worker had filed a complaint that he was sexually assaulted by the MLC on his farm on June 16.
Meanwhile, according to the Karnataka police, the case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
Suraj Revanna has been charged with intentional sexual intercourse, unnatural sexual intercourse with a person, wrongful confinement of a person and criminal intimidation, the FIR said.
A counter-complaint was filed against the JD(S) worker and his brother-in-law on the complaint of Suraj Revanna’s personal assistant for allegedly threatening and blackmailing the MLC with false allegations of sexual assault.
According to police, the FIR was registered under sections 384 and 506.
Suraj Revanna is the son of JD (S) MP HD Revanna and elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is currently in police custody on separate allegations of sexual harassment of several women that rocked the state during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
This development comes just days after former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna was remanded in judicial custody by a special court in Bengaluru. He was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Court on June 10.
Prajwal, the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, had failed in his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the recent elections.
