Orphaned sisters in Sindh village of Dadu gang raped; police accused of protecting perpetrators

KARACHI – Another disturbing incident of sexual assault came to light when two orphan sisters were gang raped in an abandoned house in the town of Johi.

According to reports published in a local newspaper, it took five days for charges to be brought against unknown persons, even though the victims had clearly identified two men.

The police negligence in this case was exposed and sparked outrage online as well. One of the victims complained that he had approached the Johi police station seeking help and narrated his ordeal, but the officials did not register a case.

The victims made the incident public and staged a protest against the police at Johi Press Club. The case was filed under sections 452/337, 324/24 and 365/511 PPC.

Sources suggest that support from influential politicians for perpetrators in rape cases often compromises justice for victims and leads to an increase in rape cases.
