Man arrested after attempted burglary | News

Officers from Newport, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police responded to the scene but were unable to locate the suspect.

While interviewing homeowners in the area, officers learned the man was hiding in a vehicle on Northeast 57th Street. They went to the area and found a vehicle with the door open. After a brief standoff, the man surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. He was identified as Brandon Allen Lyons, 49, of Newport.

During their subsequent investigation, officers learned from an employee of the area-based company Coast Towing that Lyons got into a tow truck, started it, and put it in gear. However, Lyons was unable to release the air brakes and was chased away by a company employee.

Lyons was taken to the Lincoln County Jail and charged with second-degree trespassing (three counts), unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, attempted unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and second-degree disorderly conduct.

The incident remains under investigation.
