The Medical Laboratory Professionals Union (MELPWU) has suspended its strike.

The suspension of the strike came after the union leadership met with members following a meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC).

The NLC met with the MELPWU leadership and called on them to call off the strike and resume negotiations with the government.

The union leaders then met with their members and unanimously decided to suspend the strike and negotiate with the government over working conditions.

The union members went on strike on June 17 because the government was hesitant to revise their working conditions.

MELPWU General Secretary Dr Cephas Akortor informed journalists today, Friday, June 21, 2024, that members have been asked to resume work while negotiations with the government continue.

“We have decided to put the ongoing industrial action on hold and advise all union members to return to their respective workplaces by Monday, June 24, 2024, in order to prepare their workplaces for full operation on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.”
