Police officer charged with raping subordinate in Navi Mumbai | News from Navi Mumbai

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old sub-inspector of police in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, is accused of raping, molesting and taking money from a married policewoman between 2020 and July 2022. The 26-year-old victim alleges that the sub-inspector, after promising to marry her, raped her multiple times in a flat in Sanpada and took Rs 1.9 crore on various pretexts and returned only Rs 1.461 crore to her.

The assaults allegedly took place between 2020 and July 2022. According to the officer, the accused befriended the victim, who is also with the Mumbai Police, and raped her multiple times in a Sanpada apartment after promising to marry her. He also reportedly took Rs 1.9 million from her and returned only Rs 1.461 million.

The case has several alarming aspects. The accused is said to have stalked the woman and demanded that she leave her husband. He is also said to have threatened to kill her if she did not obey.

“He also took Rs 1.9 million from the victim from time to time under some pretext and returned only Rs 1.461 million,” police said.

An initial complaint was filed at Pant Nagar police station in Mumbai, following which a ‘Zero’ FIR was filed against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 376 (rape), 376(2)(n) (repeated rape), 354(a) (sexual harassment), 354(d) (stalking), 506(2) (criminal intimidation) and 420 (cheating).

The case was referred to the Sanpada police for further investigation, which registered it on Saturday.

A Zero FIR can be filed at any police station, irrespective of the location of the incident, and later forwarded to the appropriate jurisdiction.
