Three arrests after man steals Fairfax County Police patrol car and causes crash

The man who led Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) officers on a chase in a stolen patrol car on Friday has been arrested, police officials said.

On June 21, an officer encountered a stolen 2010 Toyota Corolla near Fair Oaks Mall. There were three people in the car.

Kenton Smith, the driver, attempted to walk away when the officer arrived. When the officer attempted to stop Smith, another passenger in the Corolla, Eric Gutierrez slipped into the officer’s unmarked patrol car and drove away.

Other police officers pursued Gutierrez, who eventually collided with two police cars. He was taken into custody with non-life-threatening injuries.

Smith and the other passenger, Natrua Mayfield-Jackson, were taken into custody at the mall.

Two of the police officers who carried out the operation also suffered injuries in the accident that were not life-threatening.
