Police in Asheboro search for suspect who attempted burglary

Officials with the Asheboro Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect who allegedly attempted to break into a home.

Police said they were called to the intersection of Old Liberty Road and North Fayateville Street around 6:21 a.m. Friday.

They said two young girls reported that while walking they encountered a man driving by in his car. Officers said the man started a conversation with the girls and asked if they were at school. When the teens saw a gun in the car, they drove away toward English Street.

The two teens said the man got out of his car and followed them to a family member’s house nearby. Officers said the girls got inside the house and locked the door, but the suspect tried to open both the front and side doors without success. The man then left the house.

Officers said the suspect was a man with short hair wearing a black T-shirt with a design and black shorts. The vehicle was described as a white, tan or cream colored passenger car with tinted windows, possibly a Honda or Toyota.
