Murder: Murder discovered by accident, suspect commits suicide | Bhopal News

Bhopal: A 30-year-old man murdered a newlywed woman, who was once his girlfriend. He was going to dispose of her body in a car when the vehicle crashed in MP’s Umaria district on Friday night, exposing his gruesome plot, police said on Saturday. Locals who went to rescue him were shocked to find the blood-stained body of a woman in the back seat. It was clear that she had been stabbed to death and it was not the result of the accident. When the man realised that he had been caught, he drank acid and died in hospital on Saturday morning, police said. Police identified the murdered woman as 25-year-old Mamta Panika of Anuppur district, a student of Amarkantak Tribal University. Her suspected killer was Suraj Panika of Umaria. Suraj and Mamta were friends for a long time but he could not accept it when she married someone else in April this year. On Friday, he asked her to meet him in Amarkantak and stabbed her to death when she arrived, police said. Investigators suspect he planned to dump the body in Umaria. About 50 km from the town, in Ghunghuti, he lost control of the car and it plunged into a ditch in a forest. Villagers rushed to the spot but were stunned to find a murdered woman in the back seat, Bhupendra Pant of Ghunghuti police station told TOI. They alerted police. TNN
