Motorcycle driver killed after trying to split lanes in Atlanta

ATLANTA — A motorcyclist was struck and killed in Atlanta Friday night after police said he was trying to split lanes at high speeds.

Atlanta Police officers responded to Greenbriar Parkway SW and Continental Colony Parkway SW around 11:10 p.m. after receiving reports of a two-vehicle collision.

When officers responded, they discovered that a Honda CR-V and a Kawasaki motorcycle had been involved in an accident.

A 36-year-old man who was driving the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Another person who was on the back of the motorcycle was rushed to Grady Hospital in critical condition, police said. A 29-year-old woman, the driver of the CR-V, was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police said the initial investigation showed the driver of the CR-V was traveling north on Continental Colony Parkway SW, where she was attempting to turn left westbound onto Greenbriar Parkway. APD said the motorcyclist was speeding and splitting lanes and ultimately collided with the CR-V in the middle of the intersection.

Investigators are still trying to determine more details about the crash.
