Proceedings against Prajwal Revanna’s younger brother Suraj Revanna for sexual assault of a party worker

Hassan:

MP Suraj Revanna of the Democratic Party (SED) was arrested on Saturday for allegedly sexually harassing a party worker a few days ago, police said.

Chethan KS (27) had filed a complaint with the police that Suraj Revanna, the eldest son of Holenarasipura MP HD Revanna, sexually assaulted him on the evening of June 16 at his farm in Ghannikada in Holenarasipura state.

Based on the complaint, the Holenarasipura police registered a case against the JD(S) MLC under sections 377 (unnatural sexual intercourse) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) late on Saturday night.

However, Suraj Revanna (37), grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, categorically denied these allegations. Instead, he claimed that Chethan had filed a false complaint to extort Rs 50 crore from him.

The police have not yet arrested Suraj Revanna.

On Friday, police registered an extortion case against Chethan following a complaint from Suraj Revanna’s close confidant Shivakumar.

Shivakumar claims that Chethan tried to extort money from Suraj Revanna by threatening to file a false sexual assault complaint against him. It is alleged that Chethan demanded Rs 5 crore from Suraj Revanna and later the amount was reduced to Rs 2 crore.

Suraj is the elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is in police custody for allegedly sexually harassing several women. Prajwal, who lost Hassan’s parliamentary seat, was arrested on May 31, shortly after returning from Germany, where he was in hiding after charges of rape and intimidation were levelled against him.

Her father HD Revanna and mother Bhavani are out on bail on charges of kidnapping and holding an alleged victim of sexual assault by her son Prajwal.
