FCPD: Man arrested for stealing patrol car, injuring officers during chase

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Virginia (DC News Now) – A man who stole a Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) patrol car and led officers on a chase in Fair Oaks He was arrested on Friday morning, officials said on Saturday.

The FCPD said they were notified of a stolen vehicle near Fair Oaks Mall around 11:35 a.m. Friday.

An officer found the car parked at the mall with three people inside. When the officer arrived, the driver attempted to walk away from the scene.

He was identified as 46-year-old Kenton Smith of no fixed address.

While police attempted to stop Smith, one of the passengers, identified as 30-year-old Eric Gutierrez of Ashland, exited the car and stole the officer’s unmarked patrol car.

After Gutierrez failed to stop, officers began a short chase.

Gutierrez crashed into two patrol cars before being arrested. He and two police officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

The other passenger, 28-year-old Natrua Mayfield-Jackson of Maryland, and Smith were taken into custody at the mall.

Gutierrez was taken to adult prison and charged with two counts of grand larceny – auto theft, grand larceny and speeding. He is being held without bail.

Mayfield-Jackson was taken to the Adult Detention Center and served with two warrants. She was held without bail.

Smith was charged with unauthorized use and grand theft. He was held on $4,000 bail.
