Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly suspends opposition MP for ‘obscene remarks’

ISLAMABAD: The Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, expelled an opposition MP from the assembly on Saturday for using vulgar language in parliament.

PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) MP Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel made insulting remarks against Defence Minister Khawaja Asif.

The incident occurred during Mastikhel’s speech in which he claimed that his faction was elected using ‘Form 45’ while claiming that the current government was elected using ‘Form 47’.

The provocative statement caused an immediate uproar in the House of Representatives, disrupted proceedings and forced the Speaker to temporarily adjourn the session.

The situation escalated when female MPs approached the chamber to protest against Mastikhel’s inappropriate language.

In response to her complaints, Speaker Sadiq decided to suspend Mastikhel’s membership for the current session.

“I was part of this House and such language was never used on the microphone,” Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said, adding that Sanaullah Mastikhel had seriously violated the assembly rules.

“I have no words to condemn such behaviour,” said Speaker Sadiq, stressing that decency and respect must be maintained in parliamentary proceedings. The Speaker’s decision underscores the Assembly’s commitment to upholding parliamentary standards and ensuring respectful discourse among its members.
