Semi-trailers collide on US 441 in Osceola County

Florida Highway Patrol officials are investigating a fatal crash involving two semi-trailers that occurred early this morning on U.S. Highway 441, south of State Road 60. The crash was reported around 7:17 a.m.

Preliminary reports indicate the collision involved a 2015 semi-truck (V1) and a 2020 semi-truck (V2). According to the Florida Highway Patrol, V1 was traveling northbound while V2 was traveling southbound on US 441. For reasons still unknown, the driver of V1 moved into the southbound lane and collided directly with V2. To avoid a collision, the driver of V2 swerved, but the trucks collided from front left to front left.

The force of the impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway and roll over in the adjacent wooded area. V1 landed on its roof while V2 landed on its right side. The driver of V1 was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity is pending. The driver of V2, a 28-year-old man from Orlando, was not taken from the scene and reportedly did not suffer serious injuries.

A road closure is currently in place affecting both directions of travel on US Highway 441 while the investigation continues. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes and use caution in this area.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the accident and will release additional details as they become available.
